The Orbit Cocktail Lounge opened in the 1960s and was located on Ocean Park across from the Douglas Aircraft Company building but later moved to Pico in Santa Monica after Kennedy's assassination in 1963. Following the incident, Lyndon B. Johnson closed the space program, prompting the lounge to move to Pico. In 1987, Phil McGovern, the former owner of British Hairways Salon, purchased the Orbit and turned it into the Daily Pint. While no longer here, The Orbit Cocktail Lounge is one of very few establishments in any time period that could boldly say that they converted from a space theme lounge into a British bar.
