A high quality art print of an ashtray from Tahiti South Seas, Santa Monica, California. Vintage, circa 1940s. Framed in 3/8" extruded aluminum metal. Made in the USA.
Tahiti South Seas was a restaurant and lounge located in Santa Monica. It was opened in 1939 by Herman Klabunde on 4th and Broadway, more specifically 326 Broadway, Santa Monica, CA, 90401. Because of World War II, Santa Monica became a hotspot for army air corps pilots and they needed a place to relax at night. Tahiti South Seas was the second of five restaurants owned by Klabunde. The restaurant had a strong tiki/Polynesian theme, popular at that time, and advertised its Rain-On-The-Roof feature, sound and visual effects that mimicked a tropical rainstorm inside the bar! Chinese-inspired food, good cocktails, and Tahitian dancers made the restaurant THE lively place to be. A fire in 1947 caused Tahiti South Seas to permanently close its doors.
